Orthotic (Brace) Clinic
Orthotic braces help to improve function in patients who have
suffered an illness or injury. Types of orthotics range from
foot insoles and ankle braces to neck and back braces. The
need for orthotic devices may be short-term, during the rehabilitation
process, or long term for a chronic condition.
Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital offers an interdisciplinary
Brace Clinic for patients who need orthotic devices. The Clinic
is run by a Physiatrist (physician specializing in rehabilitation
medicine), a Certified Orthotist (Specialist who designs and
fits braces) and a Physical Therapist.

Prosthetic Clinic
Prosthetic devices are used for individuals who lose a limb
due to accident or illness, or those born without a limb,
to regain function. Most new amputee patients require custom
fitting of a prosthesis as soon as they are medically cleared.
Prosthetic devices also require ongoing care and re-fitting
in order to preserve skin integrity. Generally, prostheses
need to be replaced every one to three years.
Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital's Prosthetic Clinic
has been serving the needs of amputee patients for over ten
years. The Clinic is run by an Orthopedic Surgeon, a Physiatrist
(physician specializing in rehabilitation medicine), a Certified
Prosthetist (Specialist who designs and fits prostheses) and
a Physical Therapist.
