The Department of Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine
Physiatrists (specialists in physical medicine) diagnose and
treat adults with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders.
They provide highly specialized care for people with traumatic
brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, strokes, joint replacements,
amputations and other conditions that result in physical disabilities.
They also provide care for individuals with sports or work
related injuries.
Physiatrists design individualized rehabilitation programs
based on the specific needs of patients in an effort to improve
their functional abilities and quality of life. They coordinate
and direct a team of rehabilitation professionals, including
physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapists,
social workers, psychologists, program managers and nursing
staff. Care is coordinated with the patient's attending physician
and other physician specialists.
The range of care offered by physiatrists includes specialty
services such as prosthetic clinic (artificial limbs), orthotics
clinic (braces), wheelchair clinic, electrodiagnostic studies
(EMG/nerve conduction), nerve and muscle blocks and trigger
point injections. For more information or to schedule and
appointment, please call the offices directly.
