Christmas comes early to Shaughnessy-Kaplan with the anonymous gift of a new patient van

Salem, Mass. (December 10, 2007) – Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation recently received a generous gift to purchase a new wheelchair patient van for patients needing special assistance. The gift was made by a local foundation that chooses to remain anonymous.

One of the important rehabilitation services that Shaughnessy-Kaplan therapists provide is the Patient Home Evaluation Service. A team of therapists accompany a patient who is almost ready to be discharged to their home in order to evaluate the patient’s ability to return safely after their hospital stay. The therapists look for physical barriers within the home, such as stairs and doorway width, as well as the patient’s functional abilities inside the home. This program serves hundreds of patients every year.

Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital is a 160-bed specialty hospital in Salem serving the citizens of the North Shore and eastern Massachusetts. The hospital provides two levels of inpatient care including long-term acute care (LTAC) and Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). Shaughnessy-Kaplan also has 6 outpatient rehabilitation clinics that provide comprehensive rehabilitative services in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy and swallowing & speech therapy.
